Add MindsEye to the List of AAA Games that Release in a Truly Broken State
The new game MindsEye dropped yesterday and sadly fell flat on its face. Players took to social media to show game breaking bugs and glitches, and the game has been bouncing between "mixed" and "mostly negative" reviews on Steam. The game had some hype behind it, having been announced back in 2022, and recently getting a gameplay trailer at IO Interactive's showcase last week. Some fans had high expectations because of former GTA lead Leslie Benzies being at the studio behind the game, Build A Rocket Boy.
The studio has already put out a statement, acknowledging the problem: "We understand that the requirements are high and have limited the experience for many of you, and for this, we sincerely apologize." They're planning to put out a hot fix for PC by the end of this week, but the console patch is TBD and will come out "as soon as possible."
The other major feature to the game was its creative mode called Build.MindsEye. It would allow players to add assets, like vehicles or characters, to be added in real-time while playing side-missions. The tool would also allow players to design their own missions with node-base scripting, and give them the ability to share those creations with other players. For now, Build.MindsEye is only available for PC players, but Build A Rocket Boy does plan to bring it to console as well.
**Update
First spotted by The Gamer, PlayStation has started issuing refunds for those who ask because of the game's broken state. MindsEye may have welcomed a Cyberpunk comparison in visuals or gameplay, but now is associated with one of the worst gaming launches in recent history. The Gamer also noticed reports of streamers/content creators having their sponsored streams for MindsEye delayed/canceled, which took many of them by surprise. Twitch Streamer CohhCarnage had his sponsored stream canceled literal seconds before he was set to play the game.
The short term is clearly bleak for MindsEye, but who knows, like Cyberpunk, they may be able to return the game to a playable state and even thrive...one day.
