The Switch 2 Era has Gotten Off to a Fast Start, and it's Already Breaking Records
-This is an updated version of a previously published article about the Switch 2 first-day sales-
Nintendo released a statement saying that the Switch 2 sold 3.4 million units in the first four days of its launch. That not only sets the record for global sales of a Nintendo Console in the first four days, but likely smashes the previous first-day record of console sales held by the PlayStation 4, which moved 1 million units on day one. While Nintendo doesn't specify the first day sales, it's safe to assume if they reached 3.4 million, a large chunk of that was on the first day. Check out the previous story we published below for more context on this historic start to the Switch 2 era.
From June 9th -
According to reliable Nintendo reporter Nintendo Prime, the Nintendo Switch 2 not only had an amazing launch day, but it absolutely smashed the previous record for first-day console sales. He claims that three people have independently confirmed to him that the Switch 2 sold 3 million units in just one day. For perspective, the previous record held by the PlayStation 4 was just over 1 million units. That's more than double the record! For even more perspective, the PS5 and PS4 sold around 4.5 million units in 2 months. The Switch 2 is on pace to be that in just one week. Honestly, the Switch 2 haters clearly didn't go hard enough. Better luck next time though! Meanwhile, we'll be enjoying the Switch 2, Mario Kart World and plenty more to come.
In other Switch 2 related news, some eagle-eyed fans caught a reply from YouTube last week about the possibility of the website releasing a Switch 2 app. The old YouTube app for the Switch is not compatible with the Switch 2, but it looks like YouTube and Nintendo are working together to get a new app as soon as possible.
In the meantime, here's our list of dream games we'd like to see for the Switch 2.
