At the State of Unreal Presentation today, Epic announced that several major IPs will be available for creators to use in the Unreal Editor after the crazy success of User-Generated Content in Fortnite
This week has a lot of showcases and presentations (and not to mention a console drop!), and the State of Unreal just happened this morning. Beyond a technical preview that featured The Witcher 4, Unreal spoke about the success they’ve seen with the Unreal Editor in Fortnite, with the creator-made game Super Red vs Blue having more concurrent players than Epic Games’ own game-modes over the weekend.
As Unreal continues to expand and refine the tools available in the Unreal Engine 5 and the Unreal Editor in Fortnite, they announced new features that creators will be able to use starting this year. Most prominent are the new MetaHuman tools to create even more realistic character models, the new AI tools that helped Fortnite bring Darth Vader to life (hopefully now without any hiccups), and the upcoming inclusion of major IP assets, such as Star Wars, Squid Games (dropping along with the final season on Netflix) and Avatar: The Last Airbender (coming in 2026). UEFN content has amassed 11.2 Billion hours of gameplay across 260,000 creator-made games since its launch, and with the addition of these major franchises, it’s insane to think about what people will make next.
Additionally, on June 17th, players will now have the ability to use the LEGO brick editor in LEGO Fortnite, allowing for all new levels of customization.
