First reported by Kotaku, and subsequently confirmed in a press release, the gaming publication Polygon has been sold by Vox Media to Valnet. As a result of the sale, Polygon has been hit with massive layoffs. Soon after the news broke, employees of Polygon took to social media to announce that their positions had been terminated, including Polygon’s co-founder and EIC Chris Plante.

I'm no longer with Polygon. If you're hiring, please consider the many talented writers and editors now on the market. Every one of them deserves a spot on your staff. I won't be talking more about the sale because I wasn't involved. Going to hang out with my kid. Taking wins where I can.

Polygon was founded in 2012, and quickly became a premiere outlet for gaming articles and reporting. Valnet is based in Montreal and operates Game Rant, Collider, Screen Rant, DualShockers and more. Valnet has previously been criticized for their exploitative treatment of their websites, and hollowing out content teams after buying their publications. TheWrap published a report on the founder and CEO of Valnet earlier this year detailing many of these practices.
