A major win for Epic Games after pulling Fortnite back in 2020 due to Apple’s extra fees
Epic Games founder and CEO Tim Sweeney took to social media yesterday to announce that a Northern District of California court has issued a decision stopping Apple from enforcing extra fees on purchases made outside of apps. Fortnite had not been in the US iOS store since 2020 when Apple introduced this tax.
As a result of the decision, Sweeney also announced that Epic Games would be bringing back Fortnite next week to the US iOS store and offered Apple a peace offer:
No day next week was specified for Fortnite’s return, but regardless this is a major win for Epic Games and other publishers, as Apple’s tax has prevented or deterred other companies from offering games via the US iOS store. Fortnite had been available only in the EU app store before this ruling.
