PlayStation players are finally getting their hands on one of the best games to drop on Xbox last year and OkayplayerGO is here to help you navigate the Great Circle.
After 4 long months of excessive patience, Sony sightseers can finally pack their bags for a quick trip to 1937’s China, Egypt, Thailand, Vatican City and more. Xbox and PC players have had the game since December of last year — but that doesn’t mean they get to keep all the secrets to themselves.
PS5 players not only get the most updated version of this best-selling game (the 2nd best-selling in the U.S. during launch week), but we also get to learn from everyone else’s early mistakes.
Coincidentally, it’s hard to truly qualify a misstep as an outright mistake in this game, and we encourage you to go with the flow as much as possible. You’ll be surprised at the ways you can bounce back into action, without needing to jump to a recent checkpoint.
OkayplayerGO has done some of the groundwork, so that you don’t have to. Here are the 3 most important things to know when you jump into Indiana Jones and the Great Circle:
There are more than one ways to get it done. It’s way more important than combat in this game. MachineGames put a lot into building this world…so throw on your explorer hat and get busy, you’ll need it! Look out for hidden notes, photo opportunities, and Adventure Books.
Keep an eye out for alternate paths to get around obstacles, including ledges to grab and poles to swing from. Side quests — aka ‘Fieldwork’ — are often discovered via the “random” notes, and interactions with NPCs.
White chalk, white paint, and scuff marks are usually indicators that you can interact with something, or that there’s important information for you nearby, like the combination code for a lock.
When in doubt, pull it out…The map will save you when you’re lost, not only by showing you where to go, but also by creating a waypoint for you to follow. You always have the option to set your difficulty settings to perpetually show the way…but remember to keep your adventurous spirit!
What doesn’t kill you, will NOT make you stronger. You won’t get XP for beating enemies, so turn your focus on exploring and looting EVERYTHING. Collecting Adventure Books and notes will give you the Adventure Points you need for skill upgrades.
Seriously, don’t be afraid to run and hide, or to scope out the scene by peering around the corners (hold the left trigger and click on the left or right stick). That said, most items around the combat zones can be used as weapons, or thrown to draw enemy attention. When combat is your best bet — sneak up on enemies, prioritize melee, and hide the bodies.
Your early fights will mostly consist of you stunning enemies with Indy’s whip, making them drop their weapons, then using those weapons against them to prosper. Indy’s all about sustainability.
The bad guys will get pretty good at dodging and catching, so don’t waste your time throwing weapons at them if they aren’t already stunned.
And keep that thing on you — but don’t let it fly too quickly. Not everything is easily replenishable in this game, especially not your ammo. As deadly as Indy’s famous revolver is, you’ll be better off if you conserve it. Consider turning it to the side and whacking the opposition from time to time.
Speaking of replenishing — don’t forget that EVERYTHING costs stamina. Running out of it will blur your screen, and slow you down. Eat a piece of fruit to boost your stamina, and eat a piece of bread for your health. Like most other items in this game, your food can also be used as a projectile to launch directly at enemies, or to misdirect them while they’re on patrol.
Some of Indy’s disguises will actually come with weapons that don’t disappear, even when they’re broken; but the repair kits aren’t common, so try not to whack too many heads with these particular weapons.
3. DRESS THE PART!!!
On each of the main levels, Indy will be able to get a disguise to help him blend in. However, there’s ALSO a uniform on each level that will give Indy unrestricted access to Nazi controlled areas. Prioritize these if you want the least amount of scrutiny, which is especially helpful for those trying to complete every little quest on the map.
First, in the Vatican City, you’re gonna want to grab the Blackshirt Uniform. You’ll want to head to the Borgia Gardens and from there you have two ways you can go. If you head for the Sistine Chapel, instead of going right to the chapel, turn left and follow the stairs. Otherwise, go to the excavation site via the Borgia Gardens and get into the Apostolic Palace. There you’ll want to head up to a very small chapel with Nuns in it. Approach the alter and go right out of a door. Either way you choose will lead you to a small courtyard with bad guys doing laundry. Drop down, kick the crap out of them and grab the uniform off a desk. It also comes with a Blackshirt key that opens certain doors in the Vatican and Castel Saint Angelo. You will be able to enter restricted areas as well as the Vatican underground boxing ring with this outfit equipped.
Next in Gizeh, do not miss your opportunity to get the Wehrmacht Uniform. The uniform is the best disguise to have in Gizeh since it lets you enter Nazi camps without detection. Head North to the Temple Excavation Site, and from the Gizeh Village, take a left to head West to find a guard station just by the train tracks. Jog around the back, find the spot to use the whip and hoist yourself up to get in. Take out one guard and it’s yours. It also comes with a Luger pistol and a Wehrmacht key that can open several doors in restricted areas and grant you access to Wehrmacht quarters that have loot. Players can also step into the Knuckle Duster boxing den with this disguise.
Finally, when you make it to Sukhothai, grab the Royal Army Uniform asap. Head straight north to Voss' camp. You’ll need to avoid a lot of guards, but go straight back from the main gate to the camp and towards the back, down some stairs, you’ll find some tables and a guy in his underwear doing laundry. Look at the tables around you and you should be able to steal that guy’s uniform. It'll let you wander into all restricted areas in the region and also comes with a semi-auto pistol. You can also visit the Sukhothai's boxing pit with this outfit equipped.
Keep a torch on you when exploring the crypts, and light every flame you can. Every now and then, you might choose to use your torch for melee — but more often than not, you’ll opt to let go of your torch while completing an action. Whether you're dropping it for a fight, a climb, or squeezing through a crevice, remember that you can aim and throw the torch towards the direction you’re heading in, so that you can retrieve and use it later.
